Eight people held in Sharjah for assault, robbery


(MENAFN-Khaleej Times) the sharjah police on saturday busted a gang of eight pakistanis who were allegedly involved in a spate of assault and theft cases in industrial areas

The sharjah industrial area police station received many complaints about a group of men who attacked guards and workers at outlets and companies, before fleeing with cash, equipment and electric cables.


A criminal investigation department (cid) team identified the suspects and tracked their movements. the officers laid a trap to arrest the accused red-handed. initially, m.m.s, 40, and g.m.k, 21, were arrested, who confessed to the charges levelled against them. they led the police to six others of their gang.


During the interrogation, they told the police that they sneaked into a labour camp and claimed they were cid officers. they then allegedly tied the labourers using clothes. they made off with dh5,000 from the wallets of the victims, their mobile phones, televisions and cameras.


The accused also allegedly stole laptops and computers worth dh17,000, and dh10,000 cash in another theft case. they also allegedly robbed large quantities of electricity cables, which they transported in a stolen truck.


Based on their confession, they were all referred to the public prosecution.


Speaking to khaleej times, a cid official said there is a decrease in the number of robberies and thefts at shops and outlets due to the efforts of the police. the crime, however, is taking place due to companies failing to take precautionary security measures such as installing cameras and early detection system linked to the operation room.


The police have increased security patrols in commercial and industrial areas to prevent crime and ensure security, he said.
