(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Omani sailor Hussein al Jabri finished a creditable third in the Laser Radial class at the Musannah Race Week (MRW) on the concluding day on Saturday.
Jabri collected 33 points to finish behind Ireland's Fionn Conway (14 points), who took first place and Britain's John Woolcock (23), who finished runner-up. In the Optimist class, Greek sailor Telis Athanasopoulos was on top with 28 points after winning five of the nine races.
Finnish sailors Elias Odrichinsky (51) and Jacob Ekland (95) finished second and third, respectively. In the Optimist U12 category, Jentl Hanmaaijer (131) of The Netherlands came first, followed by Mathew Hardie (155) of Great Britain in No 2 and Finland's Lucas Hoviniemi (171) in third place. Greece's Chrysa Marinou (75) was adjudged the best woman performer in the Optimist fleet.
On Thursday, Oman's Hashim al Rashdi and Raja'a al Owaisi had claimed top honours in the Hobie 16 race. The winners were awarded prizes by H H Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd al Said, Assistant Secretary General for Cabinet Affairs at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, in a closing ceremony held later on Saturday. David Graham, Oman Sail's CEO, praised the young sailors for their dedication and enthusiasm.
''We have seen some spectacular talent here at Musannah this week. Some of these youngsters are destined for great things,'' he said.
