(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule said Friday that the European Union (EU) will boost its financial aid for this year to Tunisia to meet economic, social and security challenges
Fule, who is on a working visit to Tunis, made his remarks after talks with Tunisian Prime Minister Mahdi Jomaa, adding that "along with the direct aid committed to the Tunisian Government to meet economic, social and security challenges, donations and loans will be geared toward microfinance." He asserted the EU's willingness to support reform programs in the pipeline through significant financial backing
"Five hundred million Euros have been earmarked for Tunisia in the last three years, 350 million will be directed towards macro-finance," he stated
Fule said that the EU is following with keen interest the political situation in Tunisia and supports its efforts in the run-up to elections
"The European bloc is ready, at the Tunisian Government's request, to provide its expertise and send observers to monitor elections," he added
The official also hailed the Quartet-sponsored national dialogue as well as the adoption by the National Constituent Assembly of the new constitution and its vote of confidence to the new cabinet
"Tunisia can take pride in its new basic law which guarantees rights and freedoms and serves as a strong platform for the next generations," he further said
The talk focused on the mobility partnership with Tunisia as well as on social, economic and security reforms, Fule highlighted.
