Lebanon"s March 14 Bloc marks 9th anniversary Independence Intifada

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Lebanese March 14 Bloc commemorated the ninth anniversary of the "Independence Intifada" at the Biel Center in Beirut on Friday

Representatives of the political forces affirmed, in their speeches at the ceremony, commitment to the resistance against the Israeli occupation but criticized Hezbollah for its involvement in the armed conflict in neighboring Syria

Fouad Siniora, head of the parliamentary bloc of the Future Movement and former prime minister, said the Lebanese did not abandon the resistance against the Israeli occupation, tyranny and extremism

Referring to Hezbollah, he said: "We'll never take up arms against our brothers in the homeland; we extend our hands to them and remain committed to dialogue under the umbrella of the state and the rule of law

"We reject all forms of violence and extremism whether from Muslims or Christians. Moderation is our choice," he stressed

Siniora reaffirmed rejection of Hezbollah involvement in the conflict in Syria and the attempts to drag the Lebanese into that conflict, saying: Hezbollah must pull out of Syria today in order to win tomorrow, otherwise all will be losers." He urged commitment to the Baabda Declaration which outlines Lebanon's neutral policy vis-a-vis regional conflicts while providing for joining forces against Israel

On his part, Fares Souaid, coordinator of the secretariat of March 14 bloc, highlighted the importance of the disassociation policy and national unity in the face of the regional dangers

He called for prioritizing the presidential elections and respecting the constitutional provisions in this regard. Meanwhile, MP Sami Gemayel, coordinator of the central committee of Al-Kataeb Party, underlined the bloc's commitment to the state authority in the face of the militia activities

"The coalition partners are of the view that resistance must be under the supervision of the state," he pointed out.
