Bayern Munich President Says He Will Not Appeal Jail Sentence

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency)  President of Bayern Munich Uli Hoeness said Friday that he will not appeal a verdict to put him in jail for three and a half years for tax evasion, adding that he has resigned as president of the club. Hoeness is charged with evading taxes worth $39.7 million.

The former President of the Bavarian club released a statement today saying that he resigned in order not to give Bayern a bad name. He stressed his commitment to the club adding that he will stay in touch with it for the rest of his life. He added that tax evasion was the biggest mistake he made in his life, adding that he wanted to face the responsibility of his actions. It will be the first time in 44 years that Bayern will have to operate without Hoeness, whether in the playing squad or the management team

Hoeness joined the Bavarian club in 1970, where he won three European cups. He chaired the club in 2010 and helped them reach the final of the Champions League three times since then. He was also the president when Bayern achieved an historic treble last season
