Kuwait, China maintain leads


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The North Korean sharpshooter Hay Gyung Tchay, who won bronze medal in the 2006 World Championship, took the first place in the cartridge shooting competition during the third day of the HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Third International Shooting Grand Prix. The Scottish sharpshooter Niven Sharon came second while the Lebanese sharpshooter Ray Basil, who was a bronze medalist in the 2007 World Championship, came third in the category



Kuwait continues to lead the competitions with one gold medal, one silver and two bronze, followed by Qatar, Egypt and North Korea with one gold medal each. Slovenia, Scotland and Switzerland won one silver medal each while Thailand and Lebanon won one bronze medal each.



Meanwhile, in the Seventh Asian Rifle and Gun Championship, China maintains top spot besides breaking world records in the youth and cadet categories. The Uzbek shooter Fadem Skorovarov won gold medal by scoring 206 points in the male youth 10-meter rifle category, followed by two Chinese shooters Hawran Yung and Tchi Wang who scored 205.6 and 185.3 respectively to win silver and bronze medals. In the men's team category, China won gold, while India picked silver and South Korea took bronze. In the female youth 10-meter rifle category, Singaporean shooter Martina Lindsay won the gold medal with 208.7 points, followed by Najmah Khidmati from Iran who scored 207 points to win silver and Enjima Nerguay from Mongolia who scored 186 points to win bronze



In the men's team category, Mongolia won gold, followed by South Korea and Iran winning silver and bronze in that order. China has increased its medal tally to 9 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze to maintain the top spot. India follows with 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze while Iran occupies the third position with one gold, 4 silver and one bronze. On the fourth position is Mongolia with one gold, silver and bronze each. Uzbekistan and Singapore have both won a gold medal each while Taiwan and South Korea have so far won one silver and one bronze each. Saudi Arabia and Oman has the least number of medals with one bronze each



In addition, many sports officials praised the HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Third International Shooting Grand Prix hosted by Kuwait, which is currently being held at the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic complex. Head of the Egyptian delegation Mohammed Abdulrazzak told reporters that the tournament has achieved the desired success at all levels. He described his country's participation in the tournament as effective, especially after Mohammed Azmi won the gold medal in the skeet event while the rest of his teammates scored five good results



He said the aim of the Egyptian team is not just to participate but also to win titles and achieve good results despite the current circumstances in Egypt, which has caused decline in the abilities of the players in tournaments. Abdulrazzak described the relations between Egypt and Kuwait as historic and wonderful, adding that it reflected the depth of determination between the two friendly countries. In a similar statement, the Secretary General of the Saudi Shooting Federation Brigadier Eng. Riyad Rashid praised the accomplishment of the Saudi shooting team by winning for the first time a bronze medal in pistol category during the Seventh Asian Rifle and Gun Championship



He extended his appreciation to the officials of the Higher Organizing Committee of the Championship, Head of the Arab and Kuwait Shooting Federation Eng. Duaij Al-Otaibi and General Secretary of Arab and Kuwaiti unions Obaid Al-Osaimi for their hospitality towards the delegates. He also praised the way the event was organized and all necessary requirements were provided for the participants during the training held before the official tournament. The President of the Federation and President of Tajik delegation Bhezwad Fayezallah extended his gratitude for the attention and the outstanding efforts of Kuwait for the sport, which reflects the overall level of the game in the continent under the presidency of Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah of the Asian Shooting Federation
