UAE- 26 conned into begging by gang detained in Sharjah


(MENAFN-Khaleej Times) the sharjah police recently arrested 26 asian nationals involved in begging in the emirate

The police found out that they were working for a well-organised gang that brought them into the country purposely for begging.


According to colonel jihand sahoo, director of the sharjah criminal investigation department, these people were lured by the head of the gang to come to the uae offering them jobs and on arrival, they were told by the person that they would work as beggars and were offered special revenue in addition to free accommodation.


One of the victims who was conned by the gang leader contacted the police and told them that he was promised a job before coming to the uae and that on arrival, he found out that he had to work as a beggar.


A cid team was immediately formed by the organised crimes department and investigations resulted in finding the whereabouts of the gang leader and the accommodation used. after completing legal procedures, the house was raided and 26 men and women were arrested and they confessed to being engaged in begging in various parts of the emirate.


The suspects are currently detained and will be referred to the public prosecution.


Colonel sahoo noted that all efforts are being exerted to eradicate and curb negative practices that can jeopardise the safety and stability of the country.
