His Majesty the Sultan welcomes Iran President on Oman visit


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said welcomed President Dr Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran upon his arrival at Al Alam Palace on Wednesday. 


The Iranian President, accompanied by an official delegation, arrived in Muscat earlier in the day on a two-day visit to Oman.


At Al Alam Palace, His Majesty the Sultan escorted Dr Rouhani to the Dais of Honour where the Iranian National Anthem was played while the artillery fired a 21-gun salute.


His Majesty the Sultan later met members of the Iranian delegation even as Dr Rouhani met with their highnesses, the chairman of the State Council, ministers and members of the Mission of Honour accompanying the Iranian President.


His Majesty the Sultan and Dr Rouhani reviewed the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance ties.


The meeting was attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers; Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office; Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs; Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs and head of the Mission of Honour accompanying Dr Rouhani; Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, Minister of Justice; Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhi, Minister of Oil and Gas; Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications; and Saud bin Ahmed bin Khalid al Barwani, Oman's Ambassador to Iran.


It was attended from the Iranian side by Dr Mohammed Jawad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Eng Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Minister of Oil; Eng Abbas Akhoundi, Minister of Road and Urban Development; Dr Ali Rabie, Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare; Dr Mohammad Nahavandian, head of the Presidential Office; Dr Hussein Fredoun, Special Assistant to the President for Executive Affairs; Masoud Soltanifar, Vice President and head of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organisation; Masuma Ibtikar, Vice President and head of the Environment Protection Organisation; Dr Waliullah Saif, chairman of the Central Bank; Dr Ali Akbar Sibeveih, Ambassador of Iran to Oman; Dr Hussein Amir, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs; Hamid Abu Talibi, Director of the Political Affairs Department at the Presidential Office; Bahman Hossein-Pour, Director of the Protocols Department at the Presidential Office; Ali Ridha, Director of the Communications and Information Department at the Presidential Office;


Dr Rasoul Dinarvand, Deputy Health Minister; and Nayereh Pirouzbakht, head of the National Standards Organization.


Later, His Majesty the Sultan and Dr Rouhani held a separate meeting. In the evening, His Majesty the Sultan hosted a dinner in honour of the Iranian President and the delegation accompanying him.

President Dr Hassan Rouhani met Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers at the Al Alam Palace guesthouse.


 


Agreements signed


The governments of Oman and Iran signed agreements on a gas pipeline, labour and vocational training, at the Al Alam Palace on Wednesday. They include:


€¢ A preliminary deal to extend a gas pipeline from Oman to Iran. The project will go through economic and technical feasibility studies.


€¢ An agreement to regulate the labour market, exchange of expertise, and review procedures and laws which will govern partnerships.


€¢ A pact on exchanging information on vocational training programmes to build a qualified national workforc
