UAE- Two maids among four held for killing newborn in Sharjah

(MENAFN-Khaleej Times) After being examined by a police forensic laboratory expert, it was established that the baby was killed soon after birth

The Sharjah Police have arrested two Asian maids and two men in connection with the killing of a newborn baby and hiding the body from the authorities, a police spokesman had said.

The police in Khorfakhan were notified by the administration of a hospital after a maid turned up for treatment in pain. The doctors found out that the woman had given birth recently and called the police who quizzed her and another maid who accompanied her.

The accompanying maid told the police that her friend had gone into labour and she helped her give birth in a bathroom in their sponsor’s house in the early hours. She gave conflicting statements about where they had kept the baby and the police conducted searches in the house as well as in garbage containers in the nearby areas with the help of municipality workers in Khorfakkan.

The body of a baby was found in a garbage container wrapped in clothes. After being examined by a police forensic laboratory expert, it was established that the baby was killed soon after birth.

The police also found out that the maid who gave birth had relationships with different men and she was not sure of the real father of the baby. The police arrested two Asian men with whom she had relationships to help in the investigation.

The police urged sponsors to keep an eye on their domestic workers, adding that crimes like murder happen in their houses because they do not keep a watchful eye on what is going on in their maids’ lives.
