UAE- Ras Al Khaimah to repair all potholed, patchy roads

(MENAFN-Khaleej Times) The scheme is aimed at repairing and maintaining all roads, particularly at squares and near public utilities, as early as possible

The Ras Al Khaimah Public Works and Services Department (RAKPWSD) will launch an emirate-wide service project in April this year themed ‘Saned’, which means ‘help’, for boosting the sustainability of roads. Some traffic accidents here were caused due to the poor condition of roads.

The trial of the project was launched two weeks ago, the RAKPWSD said.

The scheme is aimed at repairing and maintaining all roads, particularly at squares and near public utilities, as early as possible.

Ahmad Al Hammadi, Director, RAKPWSD, said the department has thoroughly studied the new service and adopted the executive mechanisms needed, and is open to comments, remarks and complaints from the public. “To make things easier, the public are urged to take a photograph of any road problem they come across and report it on the department’s Instagram account.”

Abu Mohammed, a Sudanese national, said some of the old roads in the emirate cause traffic accidents. “I take the road to the Red Island on a daily basis and suffer a lot due the some worn parts of the pavement, unsafe road entries and exits, apart from some trees blocking the vision on the road.”

Abu Saeed, an Emirati, said some of the roads here need to be re-planned while all the roundabouts have to be replaced with traffic lights to curb traffic congestions. “The Saeedi-Umm Arj Road needs to be rebuilt and should have a new lane, enough lights and side barriers to prevent stray animals from entering the road which saw several deadly accidents last year.”

Al Hammadi said they will utilise all available technologies to communicate with the public and respond to their suggestions. “The department will be responding to all types of road problems such as holes, cracks, uncovered manholes, open sewage areas, sand dunes and traffic lights dysfunction. We will also handle any breakdown in signboards, advertisements boards and lamp posts.”

The move will help maintain a good image of the city, improve and sustain public utilities and infrastructure, ensure smooth traffic flow and protect people’s life, he noted.

Al Hammadi said his department has increased the number of its machinery by 100 per cent to better carry out its projects. “The department has made quantum leaps to become one of the important executive departments in Ras Al Khaimah.”
