Hundreds of prizes on offer for fans at Oman Legends Cup match


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Hundreds of prizes will be on offer for fans at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Stadium on March 14 when the Oman Legends Cup match, featuring former greats from Real Madrid and Barcelona, kicks off at 7pm.


A grand prize of two tickets to attend an El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 23 is among the attractions that are on offer by the organiser, Zan for Event and Conferences.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Said al Shabibi, general manager of Zan for Events and Conferences, said, ''We are ready to host the Oman Legends Cup match. Only final touches need to be given as we gear up for the big event.


''We have received an encouraging response to ticket sales, with 80 per cent of the VVIP (RO 100) and VIP (RO50) tickets already sold out. Also, we have sold around 60 per cent of the RO10 and RO7 tickets. We are offering students RO5 and RO4 tickets.''


He said, ''Along with our sponsors, we are offering hundreds of prizes for the fans who will attend the match.''


Shabibi said the Real Madrid team will be the first to arrive, late into Wednesday evening, while the Barcelona contingent will reach Muscat a couple of hours later.


According to the itinerary, the teams will have a morning reception at Hotel InterContinental, which will be followed by a joint press meet at Omantel headquarters.


The players will interact with fans at Muscat City Centre (Real Madrid) and Qurm City Centre (Barcelona) from 4-6pm. The Ministry of Tourism will hold a reception for the teams at Al Bustan Palace Hotel later in the evening




On Friday, the teams will go on a sight-seeing tour, followed by lunch at Hotel InterContinental, before they proceed to the ground for the match.


Shabibi said the winner's trophy - a UK-manufactured 55cm tall gold-plated showpiece - costs US$25,000. There will be individual awards for the best goalkeeper and best player, besides mementos for all the players.


If the regulation-time fails to produce a result, a penalty shootout will determine the winner.


Representatives of the Ministry of Sports Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism and sponsors spoke during Tuesday's press interaction. Khalifa al Essai, Director-General of Sports Activities at the sports ministry, said ‘it is a huge honour' to have a galaxy of stars visit Oman and hoped the teams return with good memories.
