Tsonga, Berdych bow out as Djokovic progresses at Indian Wells


(MENAFN- Kora) Serbian second seed Djokovic saved two set points and never looked back on his way to a 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 win over Romanian Victor Hanescu on the hard courts at Indian Wells



The two-time champion held off Hanescu at 5-6 in the first set and stepped up in the tie-break before breaking twice in the second set



Djokovic meets Alejandro Gonzalez in the third round after the Colombian came from a break down in the deciding set to upset Croatian 31st seed Ivan Dodig 6-4 2-6 7-6 (7-5)



Six-time grand slam winner Djokovic's victory came after Berdych and Tsonga had both suffered surprise losses



Czech fourth seed Berdych was no match for gritty Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, who claimed a 4-6 6-2 6-4 win



Tsonga, the ninth seed, suffered a surprisingly straightforward 6-4 6-4 loss to French countryman Julien Benneteau



Awaiting Bautista Agut in the third round is Jarkko Nieminen, who advanced when German Florian Mayer retired with a leg injury with the Finn leading 6-2 1-0



Benneteau faces a tricky clash against Dominic Thiem after the Austrian qualifier got past French 21st seed Gilles Simon 7-6 (7-5) 6-2



There were also two other seeds to fall on Sunday



German Philipp Kohlschreiber (22nd seed) was comfortably beaten by Chinese Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu 6-2 6-2 and Canadian Vasek Pospisil (25th) was thrashed by Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin 6-0 6-2



Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili retired when trailing French eighth seed Richard Gasquet 6-0 2-0 and Bulgarian 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov was untroubled in a 6-4 6-3 win over Dutchman Robin Haase



American 12th seed John Isner sent down 15 aces on his way to a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 win over Russian Nikolay Davydenko and unpredictable Latvian 20th seed Ernests Gulbis breezed past Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-3 6-3



Veteran Tommy Robredo € the Spanish 16th seed € needed over two-and-a-half hours to battle past Australian Marinko Matosevic 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 6-4



Another Spanish seed in Fernando Verdasco (30th) outclassed Argentine Horacio Zeballos in a 7-5 7-5 win



Croatian 24th seed Marin Cilic was far too good for Italian qualifier Paolo Lorenzi 6-2 6-2 and Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez survived a tough clash against British lucky loser Jamie Ward to win 3-6 6-2 6-4



Argentine Juan Martin del Potro's withdrawal with a wrist injury had given Ward his place in the main draw
