Williams hit with three-game ban

(MENAFN - Kora) The New Zealand second rower was charged with a Grade 2 shoulder charge for a hit on George Burgess late in the game, the second time in the contest he had been whistled for the offence

Williams could have missed four weeks of action, but a more lenient sentence was handed down after a guilty plea was entered

The punishment for Williams caps a poor opening week to the season for NRL premiers Sydney, whose title defence began in the worst way

Michael Jennings had open the scoring for the Roosters at ANZ Stadium, but a hat-trick from Greg Inglis and Bryson Goodwin's further score capped the Rabbitohs' win

As the Roosters look to respond, they will be without their Kiwi star for games against Parramatta Eels, Brisbane Broncos and Manly-Warringah Sea Eagle
