Qatari Mediation Succeeds in Releasing Maaloula Nuns


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) HE Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah stated that the Qatari mediation has succeeded in releasing 13 Orthodox nuns who were abducted last December from the monastery of Mar Takla in the town of Maaloula in Syria.



Under the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, agencies concerned in the state made active efforts since last December to mediate for the release of the of Maaloula nuns, based on His Highness's belief in principles of humanity and his commitment to the lives of individuals and their right to freedom and dignit



As part of the mediation, more than 153 Syrian detainees were released from the jails of Syrian regim



Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, Qatar has been supporting the Syrian people and their legitimate demand
