(MENAFN - Arab Times) Kuwaiti sharpshooters launched a strong start in HH the Amir's Third International Shooting Grand Prix by winning the first three places in a double trap competition. The Olympics champion Fuhaid Al-Daihani took the gold, followed by Hamad Al-Afasi winning the silver and Saad Lafi Al-Mutairi settled for bronze. According to a press release, the other contestants in the fierce competition were Fernando Rossi from Italy who took the fourth place, Ahmad Al-Afasi who came fifth while in the sixth place was Russell Mark from Australia who was the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Champion and 2000 Seoul Olympic champion

In the women's competition, Dina Al-Tubaishi won the gold medal, the four-time world champion and London 2012 Olympic bronze medal winner Danka Partikoff from Slovenia settled for the silver, while the three-time Asian champion and two-time world champion Sotiya Jiyoshaliyomet from Thailand won the bronze medal. Meanwhile, in the Seventh Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship, the Chinese team managed to emerge victorious by winning 3 out of 4 gold medals while two world records were broken during the event



The 2008 Beijing Olympic champion and the 2006 World Champion Bang Wi broke the world record to capture the gold medal in the pistols (10 meters) competition when he recorded 202.3 points, breaking the previous world record set by South Korean Jin Jong in Munich 2013, which was 202.2 points. A promising Indian sharpshooter Buja Ghatkar from India managed to break Chinese domination of the event to win the gold medal in rifle (10 meters) competition after defeating Ye Seling, the former world champion and 2012 London Olympic champion, who settled for the bronze, while Kuwaiti Mariam Orzoqi settled for fifth position. However, the Chinese team went on to win gold medal in the rifle (10 meters) group competition, followed by Mongolia winning silver and India winning bronze.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federations Obaid Al-Osaimi said the federation has evaluated last year's work plan, revealing that the tournament and the training courses were successful.

He indicated that the federation will also discuss about its next work plan on participation, disclosing that the Arab Shooting Tournament, which will be held in Qatar in November, has been endorsed

He added that the Secretariat General of the federation has been assigned to look into the proposal of holding two tournaments in 2015 and 2016, and their schedules so that they do not collide with any other international commitments in this sport
