The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) distributed child safety car seats for newborns at Latifa and Dubai hospitals on Sunday to mark the Unified GCC Traffic Week.

The RTA collaborated with the Dubai Health Authority as part of the ‘Generations Safety is a Shared Responsibility’ initiative, where a number of child safety seats will be distributed via a daily raffle throughout the week at these hospitals.

“The Traffic Department has prepared an extensive programme to celebrate the week targeting the majority of community segments in Dubai by distributing awareness clippings in cinemas, cashier desks in cooperative societies, shopping centres and RTA’s e-service screens,” said Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

Awareness events for RTA’s public bus drivers and youngsters in some sports clubs have also been organised in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council. “The department will also spread multitudes of awareness messages through social networking sites affiliated to the RTA and its partners,” added Al Banna.

“The main idea behind distributing child safety seats in hospitals is to deliver our awareness message to mothers underlying the importance of traffic safety measures for newborn babies, besides continuing to use such safety seats of various sizes until children reach the age of 10.”

Al Banna said that an awareness programme will be held in Dubai hospitals about child safety throughout the year and will include awareness workshops and lectures for pregnant women and mothers. A monthly raffle on two child safety seats will also be held and mothers will be offered discount coupons on child seats from stores specialised in providing child products.
