TOMORROW THE TEAM of Bollywood comedy Welcome Back returns to Dubai to start shooting for the second installment of their film.

This time the plan is grander and the stay is longer. Cast members John Abraham, Shruti Hassan, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor and Paresh Rawal will stay in Dubai for around 40 days. Naseeruddin Shah and Shiney Ahuja will be joining the star cast and shooting will begin on Tuesday. The first schedule of the film was successfully completed in Dubai last December, and the team is all excited about their second schedule in the UAE.

The big climax will be shot in a desert area close to Al Ain and more than 200 people will be part of the crew. Producer Firoz Nadiadwala told City Times, “We are planning certain stunts involving helicopters, bikes and cars, that have not been seen before. The effort is to keep bettering ourselves in terms of technique and technology. Our endeavour is to do our best in both areas. Some action scenes will have seven cameras. One particular shot can be taken from many angles but it’s how we do it that makes it different. There will be heli-cams involved. There will be a lot of aerial cameras involved in the climax scene.

“Some of the action shots will be remembered for a long time, considering the way we planned them, with minute execution. It is on par with many high profile action stunts from LA.”

Last year the team shot at many locations in Dubai like Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Sofitel and Al Barsha, among others, but this year the team will venture further to Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain; however the primary shooting will happen in Dubai in places like Zabeel Saray, Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab, amongst many others. Nadiadwala will also shoot in a huge yacht that will have a helipad.

Shiney Ahuja is joining the star cast of Welcome Back in Dubai. The actor was arrested in Mumbai in June 2009 following charges of rape, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation levelled by his maid. He spent nearly five months behind bars. When we asked Firoz Nadiadwala about the inclusion of Shiney in the film and questions that are bound to arise, all he said was, “He is playing Naseeruddin Shah’s son in the film. It is a lovable role. We were going through some names and director Anees Bazmee suggested that we take Shiney. He is a great actor and completely suits the role.”

Nadiadwala said that the entire star cast and crew is excited to come back to Dubai for the second shooting schedule and thanked the authorites at DFTC. “I am thankful to Jamal Al Sharif (Managing Director, Dubai Studio City, and Chairman, Dubai Film and TV Commission), his team members like Saeed and Anuradha who helped us with filming locations and made things possible for us. They are an integral part of this film.”

Nadiadwala said there will be one song shot in Dubai that will include the entire star cast. There were reports that this film will release on December 25 clashing with Aamir Khan’s Peekay, but Firoz clarified that the film would release on December 19. He also said that around 90% of the entire film will be shot in Dubai, one song in Vegas and a few portions in Mumbai.
