One Indian navy commander killed in warship mishap


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) An Indian navy commander was killed and several others injured in a warship mishap in the eastern port city of Mumbai, government sources said on Friday



The sources added that the mishap on the warship, INS Kolkata-class destroyer ship Yard-701, was due to a gas leakage, adding that the carbon dioxide unit of the ship while undergoing machinery trials led to gas leakage

Due to leakage, sources said one navy commander lost his life while several others were hospitalized for being ill due to gas inhalation



The Indian navy is grappling with series of mishaps in their submarines and warships



Last, week, two navy officers lost their lives while seven sailors were injured after fire and smoke engulfed submarine, Sindhuratna, off the Mumbai coast



The biggest mishap occurred when the INS Sindhurakshak sank inside Mumbai harbor, killing all 18 personnel on board on August 14, 2013

Indian media said 12 mishap involving Navy's assets have been reported over the last seven months



On Feb 26, India navy Chief, DK Joshi resigned from his position due to frequent accidents involving warships.
