Mauritius ranks first in African Index on Economic Transformation


(MENAFN) A report by the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) shows that Mauritius came first in the African Index of Economic Transformation and Depth, Xinhua reported



The report shows that Mauritius was ahead of 20 other African nations that include South Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, Uganda, Kenya and Gabon



The criteria considered by the ACET to assess a country include the diversification of production and exports, the export competitiveness and profits, increases in productivity and technological enhancement among other criteria



Mauritius had one of the most impressive growth in the GDP per capita in the period from 1971 to 2010 as growth increased from a rate of 0.6 percent per year in the 1970s to 5.1 percent per year in the 1980s and has more than tripled to 2010
