(MENAFN - Kora) The Flyers and Capitals are among the backlog of teams vying for play-off spots in Metropolitan, with the Flyers sitting second on 72 points, just five clear of the sixth-placed New Jersey Devils

The closeness of the division made Philadelphia's victory all the more important, keeping the Caps on 68 points in fifth

Philadelphia's win came courtesy of two goals and an assist from in-form captain Claude Giroux, while Jakub Voracek also scored twice

Michael Raffl and Steve Downie also got on the scoresheet for the winners

With the Pittsburgh Penguins well clear on top of Metropolitan, there are practically just two play-off spots remaining with five teams - six, counting the Carolina Hurricanes on 63 points - in contention

The Toronto Maple Leafs reclaimed third spot in the East's Atlantic division, with a 3-2 overtime win over the New York Rangers

In what was Martin St Louis' first game for the Rangers after his deadline-day trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto crashed the welcoming party

Tyler Bozak scored the winner in the extra period, after the Rangers had reeled in a two-gol deficit in the third period

The Calgary Flames put in a polished performance against the Ottawa Senators, running out 4-1 winners

Markus Granlund scored his first NHL goal and also Calgary's for the evening, in just the game's third minute

And Paul Byron, Joe Colborne and Mike Cammalleri also struck for the Flames, as they claimed the two points

The West's Pacific division-leading Anaheim Ducks saw their winning streak ended in controversial fashion, as they were beaten 4-3 after a shootout by the Montreal Canadiens

Anaheim's Kyle Palmieri was denied a goal in the shootout after a rare video review in the sudden-death format, as his shot deflected off both posts of the goal but the referees concluded the puck never crossed the line

Palmieri's miss ensured the score remained at 2-2, and although Tomas Plekanec missed a chance to win it for Montreal, the Canadian outfit triumphed in the next round when Andrei Markov found the back of the net

Anaheim's three-match winning streak was ended, however, they remain seven points clear top of the division, with the San Jose Sharks their closest rival
