(MENAFN -Arab News) The French Consulate General in Jeddah organized the 15th solo exhibition of the famous Jeddah artist Awad Abu Salah at its premises on Monday

The French Consul General Dr. Louis Blin welcomed the guests and introduced Awad Abu Salah, the Jeddah-based famous artist and his unique work with the theme ?Human beings and their problems? which he portrays vividly and with aesthetic undertones on his canvas.

Dr. Blin told Arab News that this was the 2nd exhibition at the French consulate adding that the French consulate takes a lot of interest in the work of Saudi artists. ?The French love art and France is known as the home of artists,? he said

Saudi artists and their work have been making waves on the art scene internationally for the past 3-4 years.

Recently, Jeddah was declared as the city of art and artists. This year, some events put Jeddah on the map for its unique art work and the French consulate is trying to share these moments and be a part of it.

Referring to Abu Salah?s work, Dr. Blin said ?The paintings that surround us are half-way between the abstract and figurative representing mainly human beings, who are portrayed in a whirlwind of warm and bright hues, dominated by the color red.?

Dr. Blin further said that the characters seem to dance with the earth. ?What emerges from these paintings is a bubbling of life which gives a warm and lively aspect and a deep sense of optimism.

?Today, I put up 20 pieces of my latest artwork on display portraying human beings, figures and feelings.

You will find a mixture of Saudi and African colors in my paintings as I am basically from Africa but have been living in Jeddah for the past 25 years,? said Abu Salah

He further said that he was extremely happy to have his 15th solo exhibition at the French consulate with the theme ?Problems of human beings?.

?My paintings highlight the difficulties people face and their features.

Sometimes you will see a group of figures involved in some problems and their reactions. I try to show the human struggle in my work,? he added.

Awad Abu Salah is a Sudanese artist based in Jeddah. He graduated with honors from the College of Fine Arts in Khartoum. He has 14 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions to his credit and has received many awards including the Souk Okaz Festival Award.
