GCC Traffic Week starts March 9


(MENAFN- Arab Times) A press conference was held on March 5 to mark the advent of the GCC Traffic Week titled 'Your Safety is our Objective', which will take place from 9th to 15th of this month. According to a press statement, the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali said the GCC Traffic Week is a good platform for exchanging information, ideas, the efforts exerted for traffic affairs and achievements, and for discussing future strategies and plans for solving traffic congestion. He praised the role played by the media and Kuwaiti newspapers in spreading awareness and conveying news in a true and sincere manner



Major General Al-Ali presented achievements made by the General Traffic Department in 2013 such as engineering projects, the national strategic project for traffic, and projects for implementing latest technological methods. He also presented some traffic statistics. He announced that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled has approved the project for establishing the first traffic radio channel in Kuwait, which is considered first of its kind in the region, adding that its objective is to spread more traffic awareness in the country



Regarding the GCC Traffic Week, Major General Al-Ali explained that GCC traffic week is dedication of one week for spreading traffic awareness, clarifying that this event does not mean more number of citations will be issued against traffic violations. Others who spoke about the achievement of their respective departments included the Director of Traffic Engineering Department Colonel Saadoun Al-Khalidi, Director of Special Training Department Colonel Hesham Yasin Abdallah and the Head of the executive committee for GCC Traffic Week Colonel Tawheed Al-Kandari
