Exhibition on Oman's natural heritage opens in London


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's Natural Heritage Exhibition, ‘Earth, Nature and Culture', began at the Royal Geographical Society in London on Tuesday.


The exhibition has been organised by the National Field Research Centre for Environmental Conservation (NFRCEC) of the Diwan of Royal Court and will continue till March 28.


At the opening ceremony, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, secretary general in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that such exhibitions take the sultanate's heritage, natural diversity and culture to the world.


He said this event has rare exhibits that document Oman's history since the second century BC and tell the story of how its environment and wildlife have evolved. In a media statement, he lauded the efforts taken to highlight the cultural and environmental heritage of the sultanate and wished the exhibition success.


He said that the symposium being held along with the exhibition will bring together researchers to exchange experience and findings of latest studies in the field.


H E Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary for Heritage and Culture in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture (MoHC) said the exhibition is an opportunity to create an effective partnership between the Royal Geographical Society and concerned bodies in Oman including MoHC.


In his statement to the media, he talked about a possible partnership between MoHC and the Royal Geographic Society for a project to develop the Natural History Museum.


H E Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Zahir al Hinai, the sultanate's Ambassador to the UK expressed thanks to NFRCEC for its efforts to highlight Oman's natural treasures.
