Lesser lights to shine in Puerto Rico

(MENAFN- Kora) All eyes will be on the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Florida starting Thursday and Rio Grande shapes as a chance for those outside the top 50 to kick-start their seasons

Defending champion Scott Brown is among those returning to the Trump International Golf Club Puerto Rico

Previous winners George McNeill (2012), Michael Bradley (2011 and 2009) and Derek Lamely (2010) are also in the field

The tournament is an opportunity for players yet to pick up a victory on the PGA Tour

Three of the previous six winners were first-timers, including Brown's win which set the tournament record of a 20-under 268

Sponsor exemptions have played a key part at the event in the past two years

Jordan Spieth was runner-up to Brown last year and Japan's Ryo Ishikawa finished second to McNeill in 2012

American world number 81 Chris Stroud should fancy his chances given his decent form in the past fortnight

He finished tied for 12th at the Honda Classic and also managed a top 20 at the Phoenix Open earlier in 2014

The United States' Brian Stuard will be hoping to recapture his early-season form after beginning his campaign with two top-10 finishes

The world number 129 has largely struggled since but is capable of being among the challengers in this field

Canadian David Hearn and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts are others who will be eyeing the title.
