Infamous Egyptian Police Brutality Case Ends with Jail Sentence


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) A criminal court in Alexandria sentenced two policemen who killed an Egyptian youngman to ten years in prison.



The sentence brings an end to a case polarized millions of Egyptian youth and is considered one of the catalysts of the January 25 revolutio



The two policemen, Awad Saleh and Mahmoud Ghazala were found guilty of torture rather than killin



Eye witnesses said that the two policeman chased the young man, Khalid Saeed, grabbed and kept banging his head on the side of the pavement before dragging him



He died the same day, yet the court did not find enough evidence to say that the policemen killed Saee



Defense lawyers said they would appeal the verdic



On the other hand, Saeed's sister Zahraa, who campaigned strongly for the case of her brother for over more than three years, said on her Facebook page "We expected heavier sentences for the killers, we now leave the matter now up to Allah the Almighty ." Under Egyptian law, crimes involving a policeman beating someone to death is classified as torture
