Qatar Condemns Human Rights Abuses Against Palestinian, Syrian Peoples

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar has welcomed the United Nations' designation of 2014 as International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, wishing that the decision would help in ending the Israeli occupation and enforce the rights of the Palestinian people. HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani made the remarks as he addressed the 25th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. He said that although several international sides are convinced that the Middle East peace process is integral to stability, security and development in the region, Israeli practices continue to deliberately thwart any regional or international efforts that lead to peace. "Peace will not be achieved until the Israeli occupation is fully ended and a just and lasting resolution is reached, ensuring the establishment of an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the basis of pre-1967 borders," Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said. He also highlighted the issue of Palestinian refugee and the necessity of solving it in accordance with the U.N. General Assembly Resolution 194. He noted that Israeli withdrawal from Golan Heights and all Arab occupied territories is key for any settlement. Qatar, he added, strongly condemns the storming of Al-Aqsa mosque by Israeli army personnel and settlers, a "red line for the Muslim world that can't be crossed
