Great British Week to be held in Kuwait


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The British Embassy in Kuwait has announced the holding of a first ever 'Great British Week' in Kuwait - a celebration that will shed light on all that is British and most importantly the close historical alliance between the UK and Kuwait. The Great British Week which begins from March 20, 2014 and ends on April 3, 2014 will showcase the Great Britain in Kuwait and is supported by big names and fantastic sponsors based around the innovative 'Great Campaign' the Great British Week - actually more like two weeks - will see Kuwait play host to an amazing line-up of events, said the British Ambassador to Kuwait His Excellency Frank Baker



During the week internationally renowned fashion designer Maria Grachvogel will hold prestigious fashion and trunk shows at the Avenues in association with top British luxury department store Harvey Nichols Also the British 'celebrity chef' Gary Rhodes will headline Kuwait's first ever festival of British food - delivering special menus at Veranda restaurant hotel and hosting a live public cooking demonstration. This is in addition to a Great British Week lecture series which will see former British Prime Minister Sir John Major speak at the Kuwait University on the past, present and future of UK-Kuwait ties



The world's fastest man, Wing Commander Andy Green, will speak about the British attempt on the world land speed record, leading young British entrepreneur Rekha Mehr will speak about harnessing great ideas for business success, and British experts in NGOs and Civil Society will talk about how individual activism remains at the beating heart of UK democracy. The 'week' will also see a line-up of iconic British cars which will be showcased in a British classic car parade along the Arabian Gulf Street, finishing up with a dazzling automotive showcase event at SIRBB Circuit, Shuwaikh, featuring an array of British motor manufacturers and some breathtaking events on the SIRBB track



Also the world-leading concert violinist Madeleine Mitchell will deliver a breathtaking performance at the Dar Al-Athar's Al-Maidan Cultural Centre. In addition, cutting edge London music promoter Chaos Theory will be bringing the latest upcoming bands from the city's thriving music scene to take part in a mash-up with the best Kuwait has to offer, hosted in conjunction with the LoYAC Academy of Performing Arts.

Last but not the least, the Grand Cinema at Al-Hamra Mall will host a series of British movie classics for the enjoyment of Kuwait's cinema-going public.



In addition to this other organisations across Kuwait will be organising their own special Great British Week events. The British Council Kuwait is organising its own roster of Great British Week events, including - just in advance of the week proper - a showcase of 'free running' at Marina Crescent by a UK performance troupe. And many British retailers will be running special offers during the Week. The week will also see the official opening of the brand new application centre for British visas, at the Al-Tijaria tower - further improving the level of service for all those in Kuwait looking to travel to the UK by the end of March or beginning of April 2014
