France Pulls Out of Preparatory Talks for G8 Summit


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Due to the mounting unrest in Ukraine, France on Sunday advised its nationals against travel to the country and decided to boycott the preparatory talks for the G8 Summit in Sochi, south Russia. Following Russia's decision to seize control in Crimea peninsula, south Ukraine, the French Foreign Ministry urged the French citizens who plan to travel to Ukraine to cancel their plans for the time being, and called on those who are in Crimea to remain vigilant for any eventuality and keep away from crowded areas. After the general situation in Ukraine started to be back to normal, signs of local instability started to appear in Crimea since February 26, the ministry noted in a statement. Pro-Russian demonstrations increased on Saturday particularly in the eastern provinces of the peninsula. Meanwhile, French President Francois Hollande hosted a crisis meeting with Foreign Miniser Laurent Fabius at the Elysee Palace. Following the meeting the Elysee announced that France will not take part in the preparatory talks, to be held in the coming few days, for the G8 summit, due in June in the Black Sea resort of Soch
