Kuwaiti stars Al Ansari and Al Shatti seal Losail MX Championship titles

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Kuwaiti motocross star Moaath Al Ansari yesterday bagged the MX1 title while compatriot Abdullah Al Shatti sealed the deal in the MX2 points race on the dirt track inside Losail International Circuit

Al Ansari accumulated 177 points from five rounds to finish the MX1 season ahead of South Africa's LeRoy Botha (149 points) and American rider Dennis Stapleton (147) who tied with Britain's Ryan Blair (147)

Al Ansari was thrilled with his title win

"I am very happy to win the championship for first time and I would like to thank the Kuwaiti Motorsport Federation and Balooshi Racing team for all the support," Al Ansari said

"I would also like to thanks QMMF for the organization and also the support of the fans who were present to see us in action," he added

Second-placed Botha was also delighted with his performances

"I am second overall and yes I am very happy considering that in the start of the season I had a bit of struggle as I was riding Kawasaki and I wasn't enjoying the bike much," Botha said

"Fortunately Abuissa Racing has given me sponsor and a bike for this year and we are looking forward to the 2014 season and it is possible that we may do (the race in) Dubai," the South African said

"I think that QMMF is doing great events and they have a magnificent track and great organization," Botha said after the race

Stapleton, who won race 2 of the Losail MX Championship yesterday, said he was happy to have finished third with 147 points

MX2 Championship winner Al Shatti topped the charts with 228 points

Al Shatti finished ahead of Hassan Ahmed from Bahrain who ended the MX2 season with a tally of 187 points while Barak Al Jasmi, also from Kuwait, ended the battle for title in third place (169 points)

Yesterday, Stapleton ended his season in Qatar with a sublime finish in the second race of the Losail MX Championship

"I am very happy to win this race. The track was still very muddy and a little slippery as some of the lines are still here from the GP riders," the American said

"You had to be very cautious to stand up just for your turns correctly. Overall it was a good run as I had the holeshoot so I had a clear vision and I was able to ride my own race," he added

"I had a good time and I am delighted to take this win. The first couple of rounds earlier in the season were well. I got overall wins, but unfortunately I had to miss the first two rounds living away in California, but I came back this weekend," Stapleton explained

In the second race yesterday, British rider Ryan Blair and Sean Gugain of South Africa secured the remaining two spots on the podium. In the MX2 category yesterday, it was a repeat of Friday's results

Kuwaiti rider Mohammed Jaffar produced a great race and emerged winner. "It was a great race but still very muddy and the weather was difficult to manage as it was windy," Jaffar sai
