England look to bounce back


(MENAFN- Kora) The tourists suffered defeat in the opening contest of the three-match series in Antigua on Friday, surrendering the initiative after a strong start to lose by 15 runs



England had the hosts struggling on 45-5 before leaking 100 runs off the final seven overs to leave them chasing 270 to win



Michael Lumb's century gave England a solid base and they looked well set for victory at 180-2 but ultimately came up short



Captain Stuart Broad was critical of his bowling attack for failing to press home England's early advantage and knows that they must improve in order to keep their hopes of a series win alive



"Up to 40 overs we were fantastic," he said. "The spinners were awesome and we put ourselves in a fantastic position, but we conceded 100 off the last seven overs and we need to look at ourselves and know how we can get better



"We need to learn to win these high-pressure games.



It was West Indies' third ODI win in a row, and if they can make it four in the second game in Antigua they will claim their second consecutive series triumph



Captain Dwayne Bravo, who hit 87 not out to help the Windies post a defendable total, will be confident of continuing his side's good form against an England side who have been off the boil for some time now



The tour of the Caribbean was supposed to be perfect preparation ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh for England, but a sixth defeat in their last seven ODI games only added to their misery in 2014



With some of their more experienced 50-overs players back home the pressure is on Broad and his side to turn their fortunes around and avoid another morale-sapping loss



England continue to have injury concerns for Sunday's match, with Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales, who missed the opener, among those who look set to miss out
