Aspetar Launches Innovative Health and Fitness Programme for Children


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Aspetar has recently launched a brand-new health and fitness programme entitled 'Haraka wa Seha' targeting children in Qatar aged 12 years and under.



This new initiative is part of Aspetar's Healthy Lifestyle Department, which, through a range of activities, regularly encourages residents to be active and adopt healthy lifestyle



'Haraka wa Seha' is an interactive programme specifically aimed at children in Qata



Consisting of several stages, each phase will last four week



Activities will be held weekly, every Monday and Wednesday, and each session will see children playing a variety of sports, including football, handball, volleyball and basketbal



Additionally, the participants will receive information about the importance of health and fitness and topics related to physical education. Dr Khalifa Al Kuwari, Director General of Aspetar, said: "We try to make every goal achievable at Aspeta



'Haraka wa Seha' demonstrates our commitment to utilizing all of our scientific and practical knowledge to build a healthy society, physically and psychologically, and to promote sports and physical activity among children according to Qatar National Vision 2030." The first stage kicked off on Monday, February 24, and will continue until Wednesday, March 1



The initial phase will see 15 children train on pitches adjacent to Khalifa International Stadium, as well as Aspire Dom



The children, all aged between 10 and 12 years old, were specifically chosen from several schools across Qatar, after obtaining the permission of their parents and the schools. "As part of the programme, we will be sending out information about the importance of fitness and how to avoid common health problems in Qatar," said Dr Mohammad Ghaith Al Kuwari, Director of the Healthy Lifestyle Programme at Aspetar. "'Haraka we Seha' is based on the latest scientific discoveries and best practices, and has been modified to suit the targeted age category and the local culture. It is also linked to sports skills. A qualified scientific and medical crew will supervise the programme, in addition to the physical education teachers in different schools who will be provided with all the necessary support and information by the Healthy Lifestyle Programme." Aspetar previously launched a health programme for adults entitled 'Step into Health', which is designed to encourage members of the community to change their lifestyle and be more active by walking 10,000 steps a day. 'Step into Health' has attracted over 29,000 participants since its launch in December 2012.
