Exhibition on Oman's natural heritage to open in London


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, secretary general in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will open the first-ever Omani Natural Heritage Exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society in London on Tuesday.


The exhibition is being organised by the National Field Research Centre for Environmental Conservation (NFRCEC). A seminar titled ‘National Heritage of Sultanate of Oman' will be held on Tuesday, followed by the exhibition which will continue till March 28.


The exhibition will showcase some unique pieces including old photographs and maps that represent Oman's culture.


Sayyid Badr will open the exhibition in the presence of Prince Albert, Duke of Kent and honorary chairman of the Royal Geographical Society, as well as a number of researchers with interest in environment.


Dr Saif bin Rashid al Shaqsi, CEO of NFRCEC will also attend the opening of the exhibition. Alasdair MacLeod, head of Enterprise and Resources at the Royal Geographical Society said, ''The society has a historic relationship with Oman which is supported by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. We are hosting the seminar which will give an insight into the ongoing archaeology projects in Oman. The exhibition will also cement the relationship between the British and Omani communities. This will give people in the UK a great opportunity to witness the heritage of Oman. It will help us exchange expertise with various researchers and scientists.''


The exhibition will shed light on a number of studies and images, as well as a rare set of old maps of the sultanate. It will further display the first-ever known map in the world that was made by renowned cartographer Ptolemaeus in 140BC.


The exhibition will be an opportunity to raise awareness of the sultanate's environment and biodiversity, as well as the efforts made to maintain it.
