Home sales in the month went up 9.6 percent from December to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 468,000 units. Sales climbed 2.2 percent from the corresponding month a year before
The median price of new houses in January hit USD260,100 declining 2.2 percent from the month before it, but up 3.4 percent from January, 2013
The US Commerce Department said that the increase helps ease concerns over the housing market in the country
