(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The U.N. Security Council has unanimously approved a resolution authorizing sanctions against individuals and organizations threatening peace, security or stability in Yemen. The resolution adopted Wednesday does not name any individuals or entities that should face an asset freeze and travel ban. Instead, it establishes a committee to decide who should face sanctions and to monitor their implementation, and a panel of experts to assist with investigations. The resolution states that sanctions will be aimed at those found to be "obstructing or undermining the successful completion of the political transition" in Yemen. The measure will create a three-member panel, under the aegis of the Security Council, to oversee the imposition of sanctions, including decisions on who would be targeted. Yemen has been struggling with a transition to democracy since Arab Spring protests in 2011 forced ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down after 33 years as president. A transitional government led by President Abed Rabbu Mansour Hadi is trying to promote national reconciliation, draft a new constitution and hold elections
