US energy imports down 19 percent in 2013


(MENAFN) A US federal report said that energy imports declined in the country last year, resulting in the lowest trade deficit in four years, Xinhua reported



The Energy Information Administration said that net energy imports plunged 19 percent from a year ago, dropping from USD304 billion to USD246 billion



The data revealed that crude oil imports were 16 percent down in 2013, declining from USD310 billion to USD268 billion, while natural gas imports fell 14 percent from USD10.3 billion to USD8.8 billion



Energy imports comprised 15 percent of total goods imports last year and crude oil was the largest single import by value among all goods in 2013
