Oman LNG delivers equipment worth RO220,000 to OAD

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Following through on its agreement last year to support the Omani Association for the Disabled, Oman LNG recently delivered 1,019 pieces of various equipment to the association, directing much needed assistance towards easing everyday life for people living with disabilities in the country.

The cost of the equipment was over RO220,000. The equipment, comprising different models and specifications of wheelchairs, electric beds and hearing aids were handed over at a simple ceremony in Muscat and will be dispatched to the handicapped in locations spread across the sultanate. Oman LNG under its social investment programme, funded by 1.5 per cent of its annual net income after tax (NIAT), has in the past extended support to recognised agents who provide care for the disabled in the society including the Al Wafa Social Centers, Association for the Disabled Children, and Al Noor Association for the Blind, among many others.

''We are happy to continue playing our role as an establishment that offers result-oriented support as a way of improving the quality of life for everyone in the country. As usual, we have brought the agreement we reached in July last year to reality and believe these one thousand and nineteen pieces of various equipment we have handed over will make life much more comfortable for the disabled among us. This way we make a difference for those mostly needed people,'' said Khalid al Massan, Oman LNG's chief corporate affairs Officer.

The Omani Association for the Disabled caters to some 882 members through its three centres in Muscat, Sohar and Ibri, said, Abdulrahman al Faki, managing director, adding that the body receives requests from everyone who needs help. ''Disabled people come to our centres by themselves to make requests for the equipment and we maintain strong link with Ministry of Social Development at the same time, this is how we were able to generate the list of items that have now been supplied by Oman LNG.

They will definitely make life more comfortable for the handicapped… make them happy,'' said Faki. With its involvement in the nation's social development, Oman LNG's vibrant social investment programme has raised the bar on how responsible companies can engage with the wider society they operate in, through an active corporate social responsibility programme that has been lauded as a thriving template for modeling public-private sector partnership that delivers many gains.

In collaboration with Oman Sail for instance, Oman LNG recently funded the establishment of a school in Sur, home to its three-train liquefied natural gas manufacturing plant. The school will teach youths the fine craftsmanship of sailing, with hopes that they could one day represent the country in the Olympics, earning glory for their prowess in sea-faring, an ancient undertaking in Oman.

The ceremony to handover the equipment was attended by Khalid bin Abdullah al Massan representing Oman LNG; Yahya bin Abdullah al Amri, president of Oman Association for Disabled as well as members of the Association and other representatives of Oman LNG at the Omani Women's Association in Qurm, Musca
