ECB set to confront inflation in region

(MENAFN) The European Central Bank (ECB) president said that policymakers are set to add stimulus if the outlook for prices deteriorates although no signs of deflation are apparent in the euro region, Times of Oman reported

The president said: "We don't have any evidence of people postponing their expenditure plans with a view to buying the same thing at lower prices, in other words we don't see what is defined to be deflation.

Economists are split over whether the ECB will add stimulus to fight the risk of deflation, as the inflation in the region slowed to 0.7 per cent last month, which is well below the ECB's target of two percent

The ECB will have "the full set of information needed for deciding whether to act or not", he added
