Oman PMO Symposium to focus on new standards in project delivery


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Oman PMO Symposium 2014, to be held on March 19-20, is expected to attract around  100 to 150 project management executives from different sectors in the country to review the latest international trends and learn about new models to enhance efficiencies in project management practices, specifically in the project management office (PMO) area.


The two-day event will be organised by Project Management Institute (PMI) - Arabian Gulf Chapter (AGC) Oman in collaboration with IW Event Management at the Golden Tulip hotel in Muscat. The event will be held under the patronage of H E Eng Sultan bin Hamdoon al Harthi, advisor at the secretariat general of the Supreme Council for Planning.


The PMO Symposium will offer individuals and organisations with an opportunity to learn about project management office (PMO) challenges, planning and implementation. International PMO experts and regional speakers will share with participants and local organizations their views and experiences.


Speaking to Muscat Daily, Mohamed Nasser al Ghanboosi, president, PMI-AGC Oman, said, ''The symposium will be a great opportunity for project management professionals to interact, share knowledge and explore the latest trends in the field. There are lots of projects going on in Oman in different sectors. The event is of much importance in the current times, with developers, consultants, contractors, oil and gas companies, banks, telecom firms, IT companies and government bodies all striving to improve efficiency of projects and delivery capabilities.''


''A few large companies in the banking and telecommunication sector have set up PMOs in Oman as well. Our objective is to bring much-needed awareness to local organizations, project managers and academic institutions about the benefits of implementing standard approaches in project management and the recent trends and new models in project management,'' Ghanboosi said.


Mohammed al Hadeethi, vice-president, PMI-AGE Oman, said, ''PMO is a model that enhances the capability and efficiency of organisations to achieve projects objectives.''


PMI is a not-for-profit professionals' organisation with more than 500,000 members and credential holders worldwide. It has 4,000 members in the GC
