Perera shines as Sri Lanka complete ODI whitewash

(MENAFN- Kora) The tourists were set 241 to win in Dhaka on Saturday and were led brilliantly to victory by opener Perera, whose 106 came from 124 deliveries

Bangladesh recovered from the early loss of Anamul Haque (2) to post 240-8, their highest total of the three-match series, with Mominul Haque top scoring for the hosts on 60

Mushfiqur Rahim (30), Naeem Islam (32) and Nasir Hossain (38) were all guilty of failing to convert their starts into big scores

Wickets at regular intervals helped Sri Lanka retain control of the innings, with Dhammika Prasad (3-49) and Suranga Lakmal (2-24) doing the damage

Sri Lanka responded strongly with the bat, Perera and Lahiru Thirimanne putting on 44 before the latter was caught by Shamsur Rahman off the bowling of Mohammad Mahmudullah (2-38) for 18

Kithuruwan Vithanage (9) was Mahmudullah's second victim soon after, but a 138-run partnership between Perera and Dinesh Chandimal (64) brought the tourists into contention and they never looked back

Perera's ton included six fours and five sixes, with the 23-year-old rarely looking troubled until he missed a delivery from Rubel Hossain (2-69) and saw his off stump knocked back

Captain Angelo Mathews (20) and Ashan Priyanjan (22) saw Sri Lanka home, with Mathews finishing the match in style by hitting six off Naeem to secure a comprehensive victory with 15 balls to spare

The win sees Sri Lanka remain unbeaten throughout the tour and leaves them well set for the forthcoming Asia Cup, also being held in Bangladesh
