(MENAFN - Kora) The UK-based Formula One outfit brought a premature end to testing in Jerez last month after enduring overheating and power unit problems, as well as other mechanical issues.

And it appears those setbacks have not gone away as, after a five-hour delay due to issues with building drivers' champion Sebastian Vettel's car, the vehicle then broke down an hour before the end of Wednesday's session.

These ongoing problems have severely hampered Red Bull's preparations for the 2014 season, with the team having completed just 35 laps of testing, compared to Mercedes' 383, McLaren's 326 and Ferrari's 315.

Renault-powered teams have posted a combined total of 246 laps, while teams using Mercedes engines have completed 1113, and Ferrari 593.

"Obviously we're not happy with where we are right now but we still have a long way ahead of us," Vettel is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"It's difficult to judge where we are. I haven't had much of the car yet. The first gut feeling is OK but we need more to judge the car. It is not that easy to find a quick fix. I think we understand the problems but it's not easy to find a solution.

"We had a problem with temperature in Jerez which we seemed to fix, at least with the couple of laps we could do. But very often you fix one problem and another one pops up."

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg topped the timesheets on Wednesday ahead of Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen.

Vettel was the top-ranking driver in a Renault-powered vehicle down in fifth
