Japan's trade deficit expands 70.8 percent


(MENAFN) The trade deficit in Japan grew to USD27.27 billion in January, logging expansion for the 19th month running, Xinhua reported



The Japanese Finance Ministry said that this was the first time the deficit exceeds USD19.56 billion in over three decades



The deficit increased 70.8 percent when compared to the corresponding month a year before when the deficit stood at USD15.94 billion



Exports during the month increased by 9.5 percent to reach USD51.34 billion, but was offset by a 25 percent jump in imports to USD78.6 billion
