Qatar Underlines Role of Cooperation among South-South Region

(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Speakers at a plenary session held as part of the ongoing Arab States Regional South-South Development Expo in Doha highlighted successful solutions undertaken by Qatar when implementing a project, and outlined the role of cooperation and exchange of practical experiences and solutions among the South-South region in ensuring successful outcome.



The special plenary session on Successful Solutions from the State of Qatar was part of the First Arab States Regional South-South Development Expo, being hosted by the Foreign Ministry in partnership with the UN Office for South-South Cooperatio



It was attended by a number of officials from different sectors in the countr



CEO of Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) Issa Al Mannai spoke of a ROTA project which reconstructed 17 schools in Bagh area in Pakistan, saying that this project was carried out after the 2005 earthquake, which hit the region and led to heavy losses in lives and property destructio



He added that the 17 school project was implemented in collaboration with Qatar Red Crescent, and provided help to a number of students, teachers and communities in that area, hailing the strategy pursued by ROTA in the reconstruction of these schools which accommodate 1,600 students and about 100 teacher



He also spoke of a plan aimed at training teachers to ensure the quality of education, a matter that will help in creating job opportunities for young graduate



Although Efforts to raise the educational capacity cannot be measured in a short period, ROTA's eight years of work in this region of Pakistan has resulted in 2,037 male and female students attending schools regularly, Al Mannai said, pointing out that the organization has been working to assess the needs of students and develop their skills in different areas, as well as to build relationships between the owners of businesses and government agencies to create job opportunities for graduate student



Saleh Hamad Al Marri, head of renewable energy technology in Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), who spoke of Qatar's solar energy plan, said that Qatar had launched a project for producing electricity from solar energy under the umbrella of the Ministry of Energy and Industry and the implementation of KAHRAMA



The project aims to have 200 megawatts of power generated from solar sources by 2020, he said, adding it was a good step towards the gradual shift to adopt more sustainable technique



It will provide fresh drinking water without using desalination plants through cooperation with international partners to build a network of electricity distribution and other smart projects smart, Al Marri adde
