(MENAFN) Project activity in Qatar is expected to peak in 2014 with contract awards seen touching USD24 billion, Saudi Gazette reported.

Chairman of MEED Events said: "The Qatar's projects market accelerated in 2013, overtaking the UAE in terms of contract awards midway through the year with USD12.2 billion in new awards, the bulk of which came from the multi-billion-dollar tunneling packages awarded as part of the Doha metro project."

A conference is to be held to discuss commercial opportunities from the country's infrastructure and transportation and the oil, gas, power and water sectors.

The Gulf nation currently has USD16.5 billion worth of upstream oil schemes at various pre-execution phases.
