Alcoa to close smelter, rolling mills in Australia


(MENAFN) Alcoa, a global aluminum producer, said that it intends to permanently close its Point Henry aluminum smelter and two rolling mills in Australia, Xinhua reported



The company said that a review was conducted and found that the Point Henry smelter will not become financially viable



Alcoa said in a statement: ""The smelter will close in August and the rolling mills by the end of 2014.



The firm's decision will affect 1,000 employees at the three sites to be closed
