(MENAFN - Arab Times) MP Kamel Al-Awadhi lauded Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hend Al-Subaih for the positive steps she has been taking to realize the ambitions of Kuwaiti youths by encouraging them to be involved in small and medium-scale projects. In a press statement Monday, Al- Awadhi disclosed the minister had earlier met a number of youths who own small and medium-scale enterprises; during which she listened to their dilemmas, problems, ambitions and requirements to develop their projects

He pointed out Al-Subaih compensated the shortage of women representation in the National Assembly through her active work in dealing with various issues. In another development, the lawmaker emphasized the need to determine who among the employers have actual manpower needs and those engaged in visa-trading. He asserted the first type of employers should not be regarded as visa traffickers.

On the other hand, MP Hamdan Al-Azmi claimed the public and parliamentary pressures led to the suspension of discussions on the GCC Security Pact. He also emphasized the need to continue such efforts to outrightly reject the pact as it negatively affects the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait and contradicts its Constitution. He argued the pact does not serve the interests of the nation, citing the ambiguous articles while stressing that history will not have compassion for the lawmakers in case the security pact is approved. Meanwhile, MP Ali Al-Rashid has submitted questions to Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khaled Al-Sabah on the essence of keeping the team searching for prisoners of war (POWs) and missing Kuwaitis in Iraq.

Al-Rashid quoted the Council of Ministers' decision on the formation of the team to search for POWs and missing Kuwaitis in Iraq in 2003. He said the country is awash with contradicting stories published in local dailies about the activities of the team tasked to locate the remains of martyrs, as well as the missing Kuwaitis and POWs in Iraq. He asked the minister about the number of team members, including the chairperson; inquiring if any of the members or their leader was changed at any point until now. He requested for copies of decisions regarding the assignment in the past and present, in addition to outcome of searches in Iraqi or Kuwaiti deserts and border areas. He wants to know whether the team discovered remains of martyrs in Iraqi territories alone or with the assistance of other teams.

He also asked about the amount spent on the team since its inception until now, along with details of payments made so far to the members and their leader. Moreover, MP Nabil Al-Fadhl has submitted a draft bill on consumer protection with an explanatory memorandum, wherein he recommended the establishment of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection.

The lawmaker urged the Parliament to approve the proposed establishment of the authority as an independent body under the supervision of the commerce and industry minister. He said the authority should coordinate efforts of all agencies in charge of consumer protection, sale of commodities and services; as well as the purchase of commodities and importation services. He underlined the need to lay down guidelines for these activities, in addition to mapping out strategies and policies in this regard. He wants the authority to create an environment favorable to local and foreign investors dealing in commodities and service
