Saudi Kingdom imports used tires worth SR6.4 billion in 2012

(MENAFN- Arab News) Saudi Arabia imported used tires worth SR6.4 billion in 2012 for small cars, trucks, buses, agro machinery, and aircraft despite a ministerial decision banning import of used tires, local media said



However, Saudi new tire imports did not exceed SR1.6 billion in the same year, according to a study conducted by Al-Eqtesadiah daily



In 1418H, a ministerial decision, based on the Council of Ministers' decision, banned import of used and renovated tires



Similar decisions were made by the Saudi Arabian Standard Organization (SASO) and the Ministry of Transport in 1421H and 1420H, respectively, the media said



Japan, China and South Korea topped the countries from which the Kingdom imported the biggest portion of the used tires



Imported tires for small vehicles captured the highest values at SR3.36 billion, followed by buses and trucks at SR2.79 billion, agro machinery at SR163 million, aircraft at SR61 million, and construction machinery at SR44 million, the report said
