Webb wins fifth Australian Open title

(MENAFN- Kora) Webb started the final round at the Victoria Golf Club in a tie for 13th, five shots behind joint leaders Chella Choi of South Korea and Australian amateur Minjee Lee

But with Choi (two-over 74) and Lee (six-over 78) both posting high scores in the fourth round, Webb's four-under 68 was enough for victory

The Australian veteran birdied the opening two holes of the fourth round and while a bogey on the fourth threatened to derail Webb's bid for a 40th LPGA Tour victory, the 39-year-old responded with birdies on the eighth, 11th and 13th

Webb finished her final round on 12-under overall and then had to sit back and wait in the clubhouse as Choi, Lee and New Zealand's Lydia Ko struggled to deal with the pressure of the chase

Lee, the Perth-born 17-year-old, who had been the story of the tournament heading to Sunday, fell apart in the fourth round with seven bogeys and a double-bogey on the par-four 12th hole

That performance saw Lee drop to a tie for 11th on seven under

Choi started with a birdie but followed that with a double-bogey and bogey to sit on 11 under for the tournament

The South Korean had plenty of time to recover but 14 straight pars followed, meaning Choi needed a birdie on the par-five 18th hole to force a play-off against Webb

Choi's tee shot was wayward but stopped short of rolling into a fairway bunker, while her second shot ended in the rough

She chipped to within one-and-a-half metres of the hole but Choi's putt never looked like going in, missing to the left to finish outright second

The United States' Paula Creamer, Karine Icher of France and Ko finished in a tie for third on 10 under, one shot behind Choi
