amendments to a law that will increase the government's control ove
the country's top judiciary body, after a tense all-night session, dpa reported
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling Justice and Developmen
(AK) Party had proposed the amendments, which will enable the justic
minister to take over several powers from the Supreme Board of Judge
and Prosecutors (HSYK), including the ability to appoint judges
The board is responsible the appointment and promotion of judges an
prosecutors
The bill, which was rejected by opposition parties, will next be sen
to President Abdullah Gul for approval
