Five Dead in Colombian Gold Mine Accident


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) At least five people were killed Friday when a gold mine collapsed in the south-western Colombian province of Narino, the governor of the province said.



Ten other people were injured, said Raul Delgado, governor of Nariñ



An unknown number of other people are missing, according to news report



A news report earlier Friday said the number of dead was at least seven and the number of injured was 31, with 15 missin



Troops were deployed to protect the rescue team and to prevent attacks by guerrillas belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) are present in the regio



The accident happened at a mine that the report said operated without the necessary permits just outside the town of Iscuande, which is about 500 kilometres south-west of Bogot

The worst mining accident in Colombian history happened in mid-2010, when 73 workers died in a blast at a coal mine in Amaga in the north-western province of Antioqui
