Obama to Travel to Mexico for North American Leaders Summit


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) US President Barack Obama will travel to Toluca, Mexico, for the North American Leaders Summit (NALS) on February 19th.



This will be Obama's second visit to Mexico during which he will meet with Mexico's President Pena Nieto and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harpe



A senior administration official told journalists during a teleconference call that President Obama will have a bilateral meeting with Niet



Following the bilateral meeting "there will be a working lunch with all three of the leaders, with Prime Minister Harper and President Pena Nieto and President Obama." The administration official affirmed that "In terms of how we look at the North American Leaders Summit, principally, I think this reflects the importance of the relationships with Canada and Mexico to our economy." The official added "just to put that in some perspective, a third of U.



Exports are to Canada and Mexico, and that trade supports roughly 14 million jobs here in the United States." Their agenda of conversation will also include reducing barriers to trade, improving the commercial environment and dealing with other trade concern



A focal point to these trade negotiations will also include the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP



The U.S., Mexico and Canada all hope to work towards a finalized position on the agreemen

Ultimately, the TPP in its entirety hopes to promote innovation, growth and jobs between countries that border the Pacific Ocea



Outside of economic endeavors, the NALS also hopes to address energy cooperation and efforts to combat climate change between the three countrie



"This is also about finding way to make that trade and our joint production more productive, to make all three of us more competitive in the world, in addition to the work that we're concluding together on the TPP," added the official.
